    61 rear axles interchangeability

Will axles from a 69 Camaro with posi fit a 61 Corvette with posi? If not does anyone know a supplier that doesn't charge "restoration" prices for axles?

Here's axle length info for 59-62 Corvette:
    L Axle Length 28 7/16 in., R Axle Length 29 15/16 in.
There was also a .1 inch doughnut spacer between the axle bearing and the inside of the axle housing. Hope this helps. Gary....

No way. The 57-62 Corvette uses different length axles for each side as Gary mentioned. 1969 Camaro uses the same length axle for each side and it's not the same as either of the Corvette axles. Beyond that, the Corvette axles are 17 splines; the Camaro axles are 28 or 30 splines, depending upon whether they are 10 bolt or 12 bolt rears.

You might try Tom's Differentials for axles.

i'd get a 55 to 64 chevy pass car pair of axles and if they measure close to what gary chestnut posted(and they probably will), they'll probably interchange.mike

Echoing what Mike McCagh stated, I am pretty sure C1 and 55-64 pass cars had the same rear ends. I know the axle tubes are the same length.

            Jerry,
            i just measured my ( spare) axles.. '56-'62.........my car is a '58..
            posi axle= LH-28 1/2"...RH= 30 1/8 "
            non-posi= LH-28 3/4"...RH= 30 1/4 "

i don't think using the axle-set's interchangably will matter. ( posi or non-posi in the carrier)..
            hope this help's..

              Re: 61 rear axles interchangeability

For some reason over the years 57-62 Chevrolet changes the lengths and bearing widths. Although the various 57-62 years are very close in lengths to each others there are differences. As well posi and non-posi axles lengths are different from each other. Gary....

55 to 62 Chevrolet passenger car axles will interchange with 56 to 62 Corvettes. The other GM makes from this vintage (Pontiac Buick etc) are too long. Rich
