Re: Q-jet
That is shiny!
If you don't mind posting a price and your "real life evaluation" I'd love to hear them. Also, let us know how it runs.

Re: Q-jet
Lyndon
I'll bet it loses some of the shine with a little age and use. If it doesn't, I have a real ugly Q-Jet I'll trade you for it. ( For the first time 1 of the smiley faces with a wink would be good, but I promised my wife I wouldn't use them.)

Re: Q-jet
I think it looks pretty good but I have to agree with the others on the air horn and main body finish. To me it looks like it now has a yellow zinc finish the same as the linkages, arms and tubes. I've seen a lot of Q-Jets over the years but don't recall seeing one that looks like yellow zinc/cad. They are usually more olive color.
I can't tell from your before pic but it looks almost like it was sprayed with a "gold paint" at one time because it looks like the "paint" has worn off in some places. It also looks like the fuel bowl vent tube had some of this paint on it because the top half has oxidized but the bottom half still is goldish. If it was the original finish I'd tend to expect the whole tube to age evenly but it looks almost like someone masked off the top of the vent. Like I said though, I can't really tell from the pic but you would have been able to tell if it was in fact the original finish or someone's old dye job. Did you happen to remove the air horn to verify the finish inside the fuel bowl before you sent it out?
If you are sure that it still had the original finish in your before pic then I stand corrected and it looks awesome!

Re: Q-jet
I had Quanta do this one for about $375. I later learned that they send them out to Custom Rebuilt Carbs in central New Jersey. It was boiled out, re-dyed and flow tested. This picture show a good contrast between the color of the hardware vs. the color of the body.

Re: Q-jet
I have no idea on the point loss but what I would do is research it a bit to see if in fact this is the wrong finish. If it is I'd contact the guys that did it and see what they will do about it. If they are a reputable shop then there must be some reason why they finished it in bright yellow chromate instead of the common yellowish-olive color....
Do you think that there is gold paint on it in the before pic and did you happen to check the color of the fuel bowl before you sent it out?- Top
