'62 Ignition lock removal
I could swear I remembered how. Like placing a paper clip into the hole while placing the ignition in the lock position. But it isn't working. What am I doing wrong?

turn ignition key fully counterclockwise, insert the cotter key,put pressure(slight) on cotter key while rotating the ignition key further counterclockwise and pull the key with cylinder from the ign switch.mike -

Just ran to the shop to give it a try. I am now using the blunt end of a 1/16" drill bit so it fills the hole. I can feel the spring depress, but I can't pull the key and tumbler out. I have the key turned counter clockwise into the "lock" position. Do I keep trying to turn it counter clockwise? Do I just keep depressing the spring while lifting the key/tumber out, while it is stationary in the locked position? I can't ever remember having an issue like this before. Now what?Comment

once ya have the spring depressed, ya gotta go counterclockwise another 10 degrees of so before you pull the whole assembly out. good luck,mikeComment

Finally.....got it. Then after I had it out of the cluster, I had to study as to what my problem was! Well, guess what, I at least have it out of the cluster, but I can't get it apart again. I am going to install a new back to the switch, so I guess if need be, I can destroy that. Bubba had a field day under the dash. He has the oil line so tight on the oil guage, it will not budge. I guess I will cut the nut to remove it from the guage. Also looking for a good break down of the cluster assy. Most of the fastners are MIA. In other words, where were screws and where were nuts on studs.Comment

Actually the AIM sheet 12 in section 12 has a pretty good illustration of the back side of the dash with wiring. There are very few clips in the area.Bill Clupper #618Comment
