Re: My thoughts right or wrong?

    Thanks a lot Chuck
As much as I would like to have a 'correct' car, the Corvette I have has just had too many things changed (all my late husband required of it was that it go really fast), so makes the most sense to just go with it. It didn't come with instructions, other than 'have fun with it, and don't throw away ANYTHING in the shop'. So it will stay fast.....guard rails are pretty well unheard of here in this mountain country, so if I do a 'Thelma and Louise' off a mountain top someday, just make sure I get distance and style points, ok? Cheers, Sandy

To the business man looking only at the balance sheet, this present course makes a lot of sense right now...NCM has discovered how to make money and they don't NEED the NCRS for support anymore; it's all about Gen (N) and Gen (N-1) now.

Well, that'll work until new Corvette buyers discover the "musuem" is only about Gen (N) and Gen (N-1) with all the history display of a mall parking lot. Once the history and heritage is gone, and the NCM becomes a depot for picking up your new Corvette, it's days will truly be numbered...But, I wouldn't expect a "businessman" or a "professional design firm" to be able to see that far ahead.

All you have to do is look what is next door. GM could give a rats ass about old Corvettes. Remember they were job # not cars. Too bad! Buy a 09 ZO-? for a 100,000 & you are the man. GM is running the show. God save us all. Remember 75-82 turd CORVETTES.

Thanks Bruce, your opinion means a lot to me cause I want to drive it a lot, not just pet it out in the shop now and then.

NO!!!!, not a 'Thelma and Louise'!!!...Don't waste a perfectly good parts car! HaHaHa... Only kidding you, and you know it.

No, I understand exactly what you're saying, and in your place, I would probably do the same. At some point, you have to make a pragmatic economic decision toward the best outcome...sometimes a correctly restored car from some candidates is just not economically feasible; you'll never break even unless gasoline cars disappear from the planet. At the same time, I could never encourage hobbyists to build up these old cars with aftermarket coil over suspensions, underhood bling, drastically altered body panels, etc...one goof ball does one of these, and then another, and another, and first thing you know there's not an old original body panel to be had.

I'm such a perfectionist, I'll probably never get mine finished. EVEN IF I DO...I'm not sure I can handle the knocks to be taken on the judging field by my beautiful, single stage acrylic urethane paint job with gloss as deep as the Grand Canyon. I'll probably just mount some modern radial tires on those Torque Thrust wheels in my closet, and drop in a b.a. GM ZZ crate motor. I always wanted LT1...if you plug in the right crate motor, you can have an LT1 Plus! HaHaHa...

But, meantime, I know how these old cars were supposed to look. I will continue toward that goal on my car...I'm too far committed financially to do otherwise.

Are all C1's NCRS members done restoring their Corvettes and put away ? Most questions and talk are of C2's , that's OK, but people that are into C1's //there is vary little to learn here or talked about .
The mid-years are the hot thing and where the big money is now so that may explain it, because C1's interest has been around longer and most are done and put away (old hat).
Mod C1's are becoming vary hot with the new generation and older making them more derivable friendly. Most found basket cases of C1's are now going Mod. Giving up the thought of a complete restoration and may be the reason for so little concern about originality which is why NCRS forum has so little info.
I would love to have a Mod Corvette my self in a C1 and would go that way if I could find a basket case C1. So I find my self having more interest in the CF then NCRS.
Also there is less of a chance of being scolded when talking about Corvettes

              Roy,

I feel your pain! I believe that the main point that you were trying to make, was, not so much about the modified straight axle Corvette, but more: "Where the hell did all of the Straight Axle Corvette owners go? I'm lonely, and have nobody to talk to. Please.........somebody, talk to me. WHERE IS EVERYBODY!!!!!!"
I have been wondering the same thing, too, for the last couple years. Even though I'm a Midyear guy (and also proud original owner of a real nice McLellan '85), I have felt your pain for awhile. Ed Lepelis, a Straight Axle guy from Jersey occasionally posts here. Maybe a few other guys, but mostly you, Roy!
              Here's something even weirder:
When I started coming here in 1999, I'd say that more than 60% of posts were Midyear related, more than 30% were Straight Axle related, and less than 10% were Shark related. HOW MUCH HAS CHANGED IN 9 YEARS.

Because of the recent surge in early Shark prices, everybody is climbing over one another to join the "feeding frenzy". When you see 70-72 LT1 Sharks ADVERTISED for 50K-60K, it's enough to make your hair hurt!

I must admit, that I have MUCH TROUBLE FINDING ANY INTERESTING MIDYEAR POSTS HERE, in the last year or so. I, too, spend more and more time on CF, VH's, CAC, DC, etc., and less and less time here.

Maybe some of you should resurrect the "Straight Axle" club.

If things continue like they have for the Midyears, I might consider a "Sting Ray" club.

In any event: "SAVE THE WAVE"

              Joe
