Motor City Regional Update - Overflow Hotel

    Hi Everyone,

Response for our Regional has been so good that we've had to add a second area for the Awards Banquet, and we've sold out the Doubletree Hotel.

I've gone ahead and set up two Overflow hotels right next door to our main host hotel, the Doubletree Novi.

Here is a direct quote from the Hotel group reservation personnel:

"The 800-321-2211 would be the best number for your guests to call to make reservations in the group blocks at both the Courtyard and the TownePlace Suites in Novi.

When calling, your guests should say that they are wanting to place a reservation, specify which hotel, the date of arrival, May 15th, and the name of the group block, National Corvette Restorers Society.

I find that the reservation line is usually the easiest means of making a reservation; the line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, guests who prefer to make their reservations online can do that also.

If you guests would like to book online, I would recommend going to the hotel's website.

www.marriott.com/dtwnv The Courtyard Novi Group code for a king room is: NCRNCRA Group code for a room with two beds is: NCRNCRB

www.marriott.com/dtwts The TownePlace Suites Novi Group code for a studio room is: NCRNCRA

Once at the website, there will be a column on the right hand side of the page and a box to put in a group code. Once the group code is in, they will need to adjust their arrival date and continue the reservation process.

The hotel website will also allow your guests to get directions, take a photo tour of the property and see the hotel and room amenities.

There is a cut off date for making reservations into the group blocks. That date is Friday, April 11th. Please convey to your guests that the rooms will be available until that date at the group rate."

As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Re: Motor City Regional Update - Overflow Hotel

    An addendum,

If anyone who is not driving a Corvette wishes to join us for breakfast at "Baker's of Milford" on Sunday morning, May 18th, before we take our Corvettes to the Milford Proving Ground we will be allowing that. You can follow our caravan from the hotel to the restaurant so you won't have to worry about getting lost.

Unfortunately there will not be non-Corvettes or spectators allowed at the Proving Grounds.

Breakfast will be $10/person (same as our cost) for a very, very nice buffet. You can let me know if you're interested so that I can get an idea how many are interested, and we will sell the tickets at the Registration Desk at the Regional.

As an FYI, that same Sunday afternoon will be Baker's first "cruise-in" of the year. They usually have a few hundred cars show up of all different makes. Many of us will be there after we finish the Proving Grounds event.

Re: Motor City Regional Update - Overflow Hotel

I received an update today from the overflow hotel(s).

3 of you have registered at the Courtyard, none yet at the Towne Suites. See the first post above if you still need a hotel room for the Regional.

Registration deadline is only 11 days away to be postmaked by April 8th.
We will have more interesting developments to announce in the next couple of weeks.

72 Flight (5 on wait list)
            16 PV
            31 Sportsman

In addition, special and display cars including a new ZR1.

Quite the show going to take place at the Milford Proving Grounds. GM is going all-out on this one.
But, you'll have to be there to see it. Trust me, it'll be worth the money. We have people registering for the Regional and attending just to be able to go to Milford. And no, I'm not going to give away all the secrets here. I'll just say that (weather permitting) the Proving Grounds visit is going to be far more than I imagined when I dreamed it all up 3 years ago.

Re: Motor City Regional Update - Overflow Hotels

New update from the overflow hotels -

I've added more rooms to both the Courtyard and the TownePlace Suites as we have almost filled our block at the Courtyard. Both hotels are located right behind our host hotel, the Doubletree Novi, and within easy walking distance. We will have our shuttle run from the Doubletree and the Courtyard to the Rock Financial Showplace, and if anyone reserves a room at the TownePlace Suites we may add that to the route.

In addition, I've asked them to extend the deadline to May 1 for members to reserve in the NCRS block at our special rate. After May 1 you will be on your own with regard to rate, though you're still welcome to use one of the overflow hotels.

              See you in May!

Re: Motor City Regional Update - Overflow Hotel

I am disappointed, that I will not have my 63 SWC ready in time for the event, specially, the visit to the GM prooving grounds.
I used to live in Brighton, just 2 miles south of the prooving grounds. used to drive by there all the times. (I remember driving up the hill from Spencer road, and past the prooving ground fence with my mercedes 300SL Roadster, that I had then. My wife could hear the engine, all the way to the house, when going up the hill..)
I now live in Farmington Hills, just a few miles from where the Rock Financial center is located.
I have less than 40 hours left to finish my car (install seats, some minor trim, tidy-up the engine bay and get engine running again).
Just this week, I received the exhaust manefolds back from Jerry McNeish after more than 2 months..
What a bummer not to be able to have it judged locally, thou. After 5 years, to be this close...The long winter didn't help much either.

                  Rainer,

I'm sorry you don't think you can make it.
Remember, you can always withdraw your entry later just in case you get the car finished in time. Let me know if you need more information.

                      Chicken.

Don't feel bad - I've only put about 300 yards on my original 1972 tires.

You are welcome to change tires anytime between when cars are released at 4 p.m. on Saturday until 7:30 a.m. on Sunday when we leave the Doubletree to caravan over to Baker's for breakfast.
As a reminder, there will be security at the hotel each evening (including Saturday night) for the Corvettes. So, it will be safe at that location while awaiting Sunday's event.

Do you know if there will still be tours of the Dewitt's facility? I would like to attend the tour (and if possible, actually pick up a radiator while there).

Thanks! Looking forward to the event!

                              We're working on that.

It looks like the Pratt and Miller tour will not happen since the team, all the cars and all the people are in Utah for that weekend.
