    1966 Instrument Cluster

Is something in the gauge that can make this happen?
    Thanks Tony

    Tony -

Assuming you're using the standard #1816 illumination bulbs, the best thing that can be said about midyear gauge illumination is that it's woefully inadequate; '63-'64 clusters have two less bulbs than '65-'67, so they're even worse. Nature of the beast without using brighter bulbs.

      Tony,
If it's possible remove a few of the sockets and turn the lights on to see if that socket is dimmer than the rest of the lit bulbs, ground the sockets to check this out. I don't think the fuel guage attachment housing could be making a bad ground in the cluster but that's the path to ground and there should be a ground wire that plugs into a spade that attaches to the cluster with one of the screws. If the other bulbs are fine look at that socket for dim compared to the others as this may indicate another problem somewhere. Also make certain you have the correct socket for the fuel guage (not likely but double check)
