    1966 odometer cable

    HI
Dose the odometer cable hang to the right or left side of the steering column. It looks like the bracket can go both ways. Assembly manual was no help.
    Thanks Tony

To the LEFT of the steering column.

I dunno, Joe --- just checked my two '65s, and the knob points down on the RIGHT side of the steering column. The sketch on '65 AIM UPC 12 Sheet C2 is a little deceptive. The '65 TIM&JG does not mention to which side it "dresses" , other than to state that if the car has telescopic steering, the bracket turns 90 degrees so that the knob is facing towards the driver. I think that if you switched the column support bracket around, it would be obvious that it's in the wrong position.

Also, given the design option, GM would opt to put the reset to enable right-handed drivers (the majority).

I believe it's on the left side on 67's. I thought that 66 was the same as 67. Might be the same as 65, though.

On 68-72 it's definitely on the left. So, I guess for 68-72 they figured the drivers were all going to be left-handed.

OK, that's good to know. I'll see if I can store that piece of information away in the ol' 'nogin for the next time it comes up.

I hope that some 67 guys can confirm my recollection that it's on the left side for 1967.
