    rocker arm nut

The mechanic that is working on one of my '71 LS-6 Corvettes called and said that some of the rocker arm nuts were not self locking, that they were worn out from adjustments I guess.

What is the correct nut for 427/454 solid lifter engines. Do I need some sort of lock washer also or just a special type of nut? Are these available?

GM #3896648 are what was originally used on your application and they are still available today under that part number for about $1.85/ GM list each. This is absolutely the nut that I recommend you use. Original style, self-locking nuts are the best for use with stock style rocker arms.

NO lock washer is necessary or should be used. The GM #3896648 is all you need.

Send them to Michael Hanson. He can peen them to proper preload. He has lots of experience with that task.
