    69 rebuilt carbs

Does anyone have experience with the rebuilt Rochesters for a 69 427/390hp available from Doc rebuild or corvette central?

A local vette repair shop is recommending a new edelbrock replacement carb and says its hit or miss on the rebuilt Q-jets and it may take a lot of hours to get the rebuilts running correctly.

Your guy is right and wrong... If the carb has been 'restored' by one of the reputable folks (Jerry Luck, Bob Kuntz, Etc.) that are often mentioned on this board, the carb will have been test run on either a flow bench or 'mule' engine prior to shipping.

They work like new! Perhaps a tweak of the choke and idle for your location, but essentially bolt and fire up.

Now, generic 'rebuilt' carbs may simply have been disassembled, cleaned and had an overhaul kit slapped in 'em. There you're playing with fire as it's typically a return to factory warranty and few actually run them before packing/shipping, don't really check for critical component warppage, Etc....

if you want to keep it original take the time and locate a seasoned rebuilder, there are many. As others have mentioned it is bolt and fire it up. I suspect your mechanic does not like qjets as they are a very good carb.
