Re: Need an opinion, do you believe this is real?

You should see the description of the OTHER car he's selling....an '89 convertible, Item number: 260229687546
...The little song & dance he writes indicates to me that this gentleman is obviously very savvy about Corvettes. He knows his stuff, that's for sure. Those '78-'79 Trans Ams sure hauled butt. Just watch "Smokey & The Bandit"....that's PROOF!!
OK, C4 guys, have at it.....I know the car has C5 wheels....but I guess all of us with '71-'82's are driving junk, according to this individual. And I was under the impression that midyears/sharks handled a bit better than the solid axle cars.... but this well informed and well-experienced seller knows different.

I cannot WAIT to see how bad he rapes whoever buys that '70, and the feedback he's gonna get from the buyer. Sad.

I hope if I every decide to sell my 68 427/400 real car, I can find as many anixous uninformed bidders as he has so far.

Amen to that....I've had my '70 for sale for over a month now, and it's had hardly the attention this thing has gotten. Maybe I should list it...

the car is still worth what is bid. its not an lt1 but its not at lt1 numbers. i think the people biding on it probably know its not the real deal. the price is about 50k low to be in lt1 numbers. its a pretty blue double bumper car and it should bring 40k. a top flight lt1 vert is a 100k + car. the car is worth 25k unrestored with the original tach and hood... and exhaust, and intake, and carb, and air cleaner, and speedometer, and fan, and everything else this "restorer" removed.

Say, maybe we are all missing a good lesson here on Corvette Marketing. I'll bet he has every one of his friends (all 2 of them) enter in a lot of bids to drive the price and interest up. It's got to be something like that.

i couldn't resist getting in the mix so i sent him an email asking what was meant by this "numbers matching" thing he talked about in the description.

His reply - he suggested I acquire and read "one of the many corvette reference books to learn more about this."

i took that as not wanting to really assert in writing that this is a numbers matching car.

Can't wait to see the closing final bid !

First post here. Might as well jump right in on a controversy I guess. I just sent the authenticity guarantee question to the seller and we'll see how he replies. If he sends me language like that I intend to report him. They have a policy against that and maybe he needs to experience some enforcement.

Just curious, has anybody asked him for a CLOSE UP picture of the tank sticker that is shown in the photos?

Re: Need an opinion, do you believe this is real?

I've been following this thread myself. I love when you guys find misleading ads. I emailed the guy yesterday and got the response below:

                      Dear gpfwvu,

We bought this car as a true LT1 and that is how we are selling it. This car was found in 2006. Any number of things can be changed or replaced in 36 years. We certainly do not wish to tell something that is not correct or true and we firmly believe this is the real deal. We have noticed a discrepancy or two ourselves but we usually find these on 99% of all cars. I believe one of the valve covers is a 71 as pointed out by someone but another interested party told us since this was a late build that was very possible. As for the "most recent description", nothing changed except for the mistake of saying the car was built June 69 instead of June 70. Also the trans number is a 661 and not a 660 as stated. We didn't want to end the listing again over that and decided to just inform any interested parties. Also the original trans is being rebuilt as we speak and will be available to the winner.

Be forewarned about filing complaints with eBay about sellers. You may not get the results you might be expecting. Sellers are eBay's bread and butter and traditionally eBay leans in favor of the seller as they get no money from buyers or browsers.

Even a close up photo of that tank sticker may not reveal anything more than a close up photo of an almost destroyed tank sticker. That would be a credit and blessing for the seller.

The response Greg Freed got was fairly civil, even if not completely open and honest, in comparison to what a couple of other "interested" people got. Maybe people are wearing him down to civililty now. Ya' think?

Gee, I wonder how the repair on that M22 is coming...I mean, some LT-1's did come with them....But is it possible we have ALL been wrong....IT'S A ZR1?!?!!! MY GOD, HOW COULD WE HAVE BEEN SO FAR OFF??? I forgot....ZR's DID have expansion tanks!! And they have those different color speedo's...they were so far ahead of their time, they didn't follow the rest of the 1970 guidelines. And OF COURSE those valve covers are correct...I really dig the look of the bad repro oil plug as well...typical ZR1 fare. And, J56 brakes had those straight-to-the -calipers brake lines, of course....OK, someone decided to shove a radio in it, probably got sick of hearing solid lifter racket....

The sick part is....it might be true.......NOT!

This is the most fun I've had on this board since the seat belt buckle argument I had back in the day!!!

I agree with Mr. Sims a complaint with e-bay will probably get you nowhere.. I have been there done that and the seller was right even though he was wrong..

Y'know, I'm kind of thinking the REAL "bad guys" are the ones who are paying over $40K for an item they OBVIOUSLY did no research on....they're totally ignoring the "Buyer Beware!" credo that I think most of us who've "been there, done that" have learned. My lesson didn't cost me forty grand, though. I'm starting to think that if this seller actually sells that car and makes a profit (which he definitely will, I'm sure) and gets away with it, HE's got more brains and cojones than I have, that's for sure....and for that, I give him all the credit in the world. Sad thing is, the people spending the big dollars wouldn't know a real LT-1 if it ran them over, and that's sad for those of us who bust our butts and wallets keeping our cars preserved and REAL, hoping to keep our investments of time and money alive.

But when I see that car (AND I WILL REMEMBER IT) at Bloomington or Carlisle or such, I want to see the guy/lady who owns it, and buy him/her a beer. He/she needs a drinking habit to explain buying THAT car, if he/she hasn't got one already!
