Re: Mid year soft top not fitting right

I never ordered a soft top from Al, but two years ago I ordered some carpet - as well as a headliner for a 66 my buddy needed. The headliner was not the correct finish and was quite abit larger than needed. Dale got right back to him, my buddy made it clear that he should not have to do as much cutting it would take to have a correct fit. Dale sent a second headliner which fit well but was still the wrong finish. This time Al himslf called back and sent a third headliner which had no issues. I do know at times both Al and Dale are out at shows and do not return phone calls. My buddy did get a call from the guy at the plant who made the headliners before the third headliner was sent. After seeing so many hits detailing bad fits quality must be an issue but I am surprised at the lack of phone calls. I hope your problems are solved soon. Good luck.

PS- I have meet a guy at NCRS shows in the east and also at Bloomington who has a Duntov 53 and deep pockets who paid all expences to have a guy fly in from the West coast who only does C-1 soft tops. It's the best looking 53 I have ever seen. You may have someone in your area , if you could buy extra material, that could do the installation?

The 'guy' that flew in from the 'West Coast' was most likely, John Kennedy from St. Lake City, Utah...the NCRS NTL for Interiors. John makes a retirement living by giving that 'personal touch' treatment on cars by purchasing off-the-shelf reproduction interior parts and modifying them in his shop at home to be factory concours 'correct' then traveling to the customer's site to execute the installation.

There's NOTHING like the job John does, but it takes a VERY serious restorer to want his level of perfection in the restoration. Most of us live with the 1-point here, 2-points there deductions that come from 'run of the mill' catalog house interior parts + locally provided installations....
