    Re: Auto Transport

I have used car shippers on two occasions:

FedEx Transport and Horseless Carriage to ship cars to NJ "inside the truck."

FexEx was good but Horseless Carriage, based in Northern NJ was better. You can call their 800 numbers and they will give you a quote on the phone.

Horseless Carriage was cheaper and also gave me a day's notice on when they would arrive at my house with the car.

      Joe,

You also need to decide how you want it shipped. Do you need it shipped in a covered trailer so that it is not exposed to the outside elements and road debris or is transport on an open trailer okay? I shipped my LT4 from Memphis to Jacksonville and used Trusty Transport. Everything went fine. One word of advice - avoid doing business with a company that requests payment (or a sizable deposit up front). Trusty requires no money up front, you pay only once your car has been safely delivered.

This is a notoriously slimy business. Most of the companies that take the orders are only brokers who then post the job on a bulletin board. Any independent driver with access to the bulletin board can take the job. This is why one person's experience with a company may not be the same as someone else's. There are many horror stories of people paying for the job up front and no one coming to pick up the car for weeks or even months or worse yet - the car being "in transit" for weeks.

      Good luck

I've had two cars shipped to CA in the last 5 years, both by Thomas Sunday, with great results! Covered vans with great care.

I used TLC Auto Transport and was very pleased with the service. Terry Carter is the owner, and actually transported the car himself. He has a dually pickup and enclosed trailer and moves two cars at a time. His sleeping quarters are in the trailer, so the cars are not left unattended overnight.

Communication was excellent, and his rate was much less than some of the larger carriers. I liked the idea of communicating directly with the man who was moving my car.

Terry mentioned that he makes alot of trips from Florida to the northeast, so it may be a good fit for you. His number is 618-918-0482.

I have used USHIP.COM...obtainined an unbelievable low price from an unbeleivable great guywho did an outstanding job...I can't recommend it enough...give it a try....you post an origin and destination and shippers bid on your business, your spec, enclosed, tiiming, flexibility...you review there feedback, check references and choose who you want to use....You will be surprised at what shippers will quote dependeing if they are in a backhaul situation with dead head miles.

Used both Exotic and FedX which I think used to be Passport and FedX was superior. Excellent tracking, customer service and care for the vehicle in a super enclosed rig.

I have a new favorite transporter, Cooley Enterprises. Attention to detail, personalized service, reasonable cost. I highly recommend them.
