Transmission Fluid

I have just completed a "clutch & seal" rebuild of the THM400 in my '75. A trip to O'Reilly has left me a little confused....How many "Dexron" fluids are there, and is any one better suited for a transmission like this? Most websites are saying that Dex VI is completely backward compatible, but I was looking for some experience here.

What you're finding is correct. Dexron VI is completely compatible with any earlier application requiring Dexron of a lower number. In fact, if you find any lower numbered Dexron out there, the chances are it's older stock or the product of a manufacturer that hasn't upgraded yet.
