Hello All,
I have a pretty highly optioned 1966 blk/blk L36 coupe that I am considering judging even though I know it is not ready for top flight yet. In most aspects the car is very nice and original, but also lacking in a few critical areas as follows:
1.) Original motor not in car - I have the original IM block but it is damaged. Looks like a valve spring let go on #1 and #3 and dropped a valve into the pistons, whereby they blew up and sent a valve through the oil galley. Haven't decided to repair or find a correct cast 942 block yet. Other than that, the rest under the hood is decent - some wrong various bolts and clamps. Block in the car appears to be an off the shelf GM replacement 7.4L. K19 carb is not on the car and it is a L72 carb and fuel lines now.
2.) I do not have the K19 option on the car yet. I have most of the correct parts, still need a couple more, and won't put it on until the correct block goes in.
3.) Paint is not great (nice 10 footer) and I think it is acrylic enamel.
4.) Trans and rear end are original but finishes are not correct on some items in the suspension, both front and rear
5.) Original seats and door panels are in very good shape and out of car for driving. I would put them back in when the car is ready to try for Top Flight.
My thoughts are that I would get it judged now to get a "blueprint" for what needs to be done. I have JG, etc and have been canvasing different areas of the car, so I know a what is lacking for the most part, but I have never had a car judged and thought this would be a good way to get introduced to the process, meet some new people, and find out more about my car.
What is the general consensus regarding judging a car that is not ready for a high score?
Thanks,
Dave
