Well, let's just say that the guys who like historical, original cars are probably sitting this one out. Try punching up Victress, Valkyrie, perhaps Devin or ?? Strikes me as a modification of one of those bodies.
It sould be noted that the real SS was done in 1957, not 1958.- Top

Why the automatic transmission? Why no description or pics of the engine? Why are there cosmetic differences with the original? Just how did dad acquire the car? There are far more questions than answers here.- Top

Re: 1958 Corvette SS Bill Mitchell Car on Ebay
In the smoky haze of the memory banks, I think Victress, Valkyrie (sp?), perhaps a Devin variation, Kellison (sp?) - but my subconscious says that it is a MODIFICATION of one of those.
By the way, in 1966, it was titled by CA as a 58 Chevrolet, Model CDCV867......Good luck with that transfer.- Top

Re: 1958 Corvette SS Bill Mitchell Car on Ebay
I checked into this car a few months back. As I recall it was purchased from a dealer in the L.A area that was known for making and selling customized cars. Can't remember the dealers name but have it in my files.
I was informed that the chassis was a big brake set up which makes it interesting...and worth the present Ebay amount.

Well, someone thinks it's the real thing. It's been bid up to $70,000. That is assuming the bids are legit.

Re: 1958 Corvette SS Bill Mitchell Car on Ebay
I've been watching and noticed that too. Interesting he states "Engine and frame have matching numbers.", but no pic of these frame numbers he's talking about, and 58 had no vin derivative on the engine anyways. If the engine assy date is FI2I(Dec 1st), and the vin# is J58S104541 as stated in the ad, then car #4541 assembly is around February 22, 1958. The engine assembly precedes the pre February 22nd frame build, that is if the engine is a Nov 57 cast engine. Again, no pictures of the cast date. ??????
If this is real....wow. I'd imagine the bidders know if it is or not. I have no clue. Are there any links to pictures and articles of the original 2 "mules"?

Photo below of the (one and only) "mule" at Sebring '57, which later became Bill Mitchell's Stingray racer. The "thing" in the auction is an old kit car body on an old C1 chassis.Attached Files- Top
