Hello NCRS members! For my first post, I'll pose a question for you.
Years ago I bought a console trim tag for my 72 LS-5. When I compared the reproduction to the original tag, the horsepower rating was different. The repo showed 455 ft lbs of torque and mine clearly shows 460. My serial number is dated first week of October. I personally saw MY 1972 serial number 1 at Bloomington Gold. It is an LS-5 with 460 on the tag. There was another LS-5 there with a serial number 11xxx (I think) with 460 as well. As a teenager, I seem to recall reading a magazine article where someone who worked at Chevy, talked about needing to change the tag mid-run because the engine wasn't producing 460 ft lbs of torque.
I wish I could find it.
Can anyone add or confirm this information? And if you have a 1972 LS-5 what does your tag say and what serial number are you?
