C1 Horn Part number and date??

I just took a horn off my 61. i don't think it's correct but i don't know what i should have. The numbers on it are 9000 ,with a stamped 57 below the 9000 and to the right of the 12V . On the other ear is 8M3 with a small letter c next to it. Any ideas? Jerry

    Hi! Jerry

I am not sure of the application for the #9000 horn but I believe it was a replacement number. I removed the same horn from a 1963 SWC.

Your horns should Delco-Remy right side, #441 and left side, #442.

I think all even number horns (352, 442, 456, 488) are high note horns and are mounted on the right side of the car (passenger side). I could be wrong.

        Hi! Bill

The horn placement was listed in the NCRS 61-62 JG Fifth edition. I checked the 1961 AIM and it confirms: 9000442 L.H. horn and 9000441 R.H. horn.

Thanks Ray. My info came from a Mason Dixon NCRS meeting attended by Ron Golalski, March 2003.

He's well regarded. Maybe they transcribed his info incorrectly.
If you are right and it sounds like you are, I have my '62 horns on backwards.
          Thanks,

In looking more closely it looks like this is a 9000 512. The "2" is only partial and on the edge. What would this be correct for?

The PN doesn't jive with any known Corvette horns, Jerry. So, it's probably a passenger car/truck substitute.

The '8M3' date code places it as being assembled Dec 3, 1958, 68, 78.... Most likely 1968.
