    Motor mounts

    67 327-300 motor project.
I've just finished rebuilding this engine and am getting ready to put it in a car. I have the original motor mounts and they look pretty good. I was going to buy new ones but heard somewhere there's a problem with the lower ignition shields and these new mounts. Should I use the old ones? The engine has been sitting since '78. I'm planning to rev this motor pretty good and have it dyno tested in the chassis.
    Thanks

    Re: Motor mounts

    John,

The "new" mounts you refer to are likely the later safety design which does require some cutting of the lower "V" spark plug wire shields for clearance. The new mounts generally come with an instruction page showing the area that must be cut out. All that to say, while they're safer, the shield cut-out probably won't pass NCRS judging without a deduction.

      Re: Motor mounts

      John,
When I replaced the motor mounts in my '65, I purchased original (non-interlocking design) from Long Island Corvette. They were very nice and no modification to ignition shielding was required.

      Good luck on your restoration.

      Regards,
      Gene

regardless of which mounts you use, make sure you check the judging manual. one bolt/nut combination goes in one way, the other side is the opposite. don't remember which, but they don't both in the same way. the judges will look for this.

          John,
Just replaced the original motor mounts in my 1967 327/300HP. My original mounts exhibited a little cracking in the rubber. I opted to Purchased a set from L.I. Corvette supply and the fit and look is spot on. Good Luck.

Thanks for the replies guys. I never thought to look in the LIC catalog after hearing the the replacements caused this problem.

The passenger side through-bolt must be installed rear-to-front or you'll have to remove the fuel pump to get it out; the fuel pump was already on the engine when the plant installed that bolt, so they're rear-to-front.
