C1 (1960) Exhaust Tunnels and Pipes

    Hi,

Until I did a search on this forum I didn't know the exhaust tunnels in the trunk existed. Unfortunately my restorer did not put them in. He told me it is fine to run without them. Any opinions on this? Is it possible, or even desirable, to install them with the body and paint work done and the exhaust in place?

Also my exhaust tips sit just inside the rear bumpers (3/16" or so) and rattle around a little. Should I try to adjust them outward, if possible? Should they move around in the bumper retainer enough to touch the bumper (rattle?) Thanks for any advice.

The retainer assembly that constrains radial movement of the tailpipe should keep it from moving far enough to contact the bumper. I always preferred to have the end of the pipes slightly rearward of the bumper so the corrosive condensate didn't dribble down inside the bumper and eat it from the inside out.
