    Advisable Goldline tire option?

    Hi,

Decided to change the radials for bias ply and will be Gold Line. I saw that there are 3 options for the 65. Which of the below is the best in perfo and correct for a late 65 vin 123197:

Goodyear Power Cushion 775x15 Gold Line

    775x15 Gold Line BF Goodrich

    775x15 Gold Line Firestone

Would appreciate your feedback and knowhow since I want to order on monday to get them in asap.

    Michael:

I would recommend the Goodyear Power Cushion Goldlines from Kelsey Tire. I think that they will ride the best of your three choices and will judge well. However, they do have DOT markings.

The reproduction Firestone tires are manufactured/sold by Coker Tire. They were previously branded DELUXE CHAMPION, but they should be SUPER SPORTS to be correct. Coker has recently revised the tires to reflect this. These tires can be ordered without any DOT markings for maximun judging credit. However, I have read that the Goldline color is not correct....more orange than gold. Also there are reports that the Firestone tires do not ride as well as the Goodyears.

I am not familar with the BF Goodrich Goldline tires.

You may get a few less point deductions with the non-DOT Firestone Super Sports; but ride quality may be worse than with the Goodyears. Your choice. I'm sure that others will also provide their comments/experiences.

      Thanks for the FB larry.

Just get a mail from the supplier that he cannot deliver the Goodyear Power Cushion in Holland. So choice is between the FS en BF Goodrich.

      Would appreciate your input!

FYI i keep my radial set, which I will use for long distance driving - not that that happense so much

I had the Firestone Deluxe Champions on my 67 coupe and wa very pleased with the ride and handling. They were goldlines that I painted Red with tire paint.

If you are looking at having the car judged, BFG was not a goldline supplier to GM in '65 or '66, thus the BFG will take a big hit in judging. As to the firestone vs Goodyear, there are profile differences between the whitewall tires and the goldlines that I do not believe the firestone picks up, therefore the firestone should not judge as well as the Kelsey Goodyear. The Goodyear may be available thru a european Goodyear dealer, have you looked into that? I believe Goodyear actually makes the tires for Kelsey, and if Kelsey doesn't ship Internationally, it may be possible Goodyear does, Just something to check.

Thanks. Checked on the goodyear, but no go in Belgium or Holland. Shipping from other EU country is like shipping from US is cost - considering the fx effect of the $ at the moment.

            Any input is welcome.

I believe a subsidiary of Goodyear makes the tires, in its Tyler Texas plant Kelly Springfield

I had the firestone goldlines from Coker on my car all the way through the judging - but I think I got them before people started to question Coker goldlines. I never lost any points due to color ( not that means anything ) I will say because of the narrow goldline width and the way it was recessed they proved to be a buster to clean. I have sidepipes and always seemed to be cleaning at least the rear tires. I sold the bias plys when my judging days were over and went with radial whitewalls for the improved ride and handling.
