I never had the original design ballast , but waiting does pay off and now I can replace the wrong design I've used for so many years. Last month I found the original beige trunk mat.

Good find Roy,
I NEVER thought I'd find my original 40 year old dealer frames but I did. Still blows me away when I drive the car and see those frames.
Check out www.livecarshows.com tomorrow I'm streaming an All Chevy show.- Top

What vintage is this ballast resistor? It appears to have a tang also.Attached Files- Top

Re: If you keep looking
One feature that changed over the years is that at some point, an opening was added in the metal band on the side where the mounting tab is. Early parts from the 1950's do not have this opening, while parts from the 1960's do have it. I'm not sure exactly when the transition occurred.
In any event, the photo you posted does not show the side with the opening, so I can't tell whether you have the "early" or "late" band design.- Top

Re: If you keep looking
It's my understanding that the correct ballast resistor (for a 1958-1960 at least) has a rounded mounting tab as in Roy's photo with a squared off tang at its center. It should also have a U-shaped cutaway in vertical side of the mounting band as Joe mentioned. I ordered a ballast resistor from Mary Jo and am returning it as it does not have the cutout.Keith MacRae
