Could the CFO and others who apparently possess the "banishment" power, please explain the rules. I am apparently in "vile disqualification" for asking if the '58 FI/Solid lifter balancer had been OMITTED from the 58-60 JG, Posted this AM, not visible at 7:05 PDT.

Re: Denied Access Again?
Loren, you got to get over this paranoia...the "mods" are not out to "get you".
The way this forum format works is different from the old TDB...every time a reply is made to a thread here, that thread moves to the top of the index page. If no one responds to a thread because no one knows the answer, or no one is interested, your thread will move down the list as newer threads are started and added to the top of the page.
If a lot of new threads are being started, your thread may move to page 2, or page 3, or to page "n" of the thread index in sequence. Mike found your thread for you, and brought it back to page 1 with a single post.
One way to find your thread again is to note the time you started the thread, then check the "Last Post" column that shows the date and time of the last post...if no one has responded to your thread, your first post time will be shown in that column in chronilogical order.
It's kind of a thread popularity contest...threads that invite the most comment stay high on index page 1. That doesn't always mean those threads are the most pithy, most informative or most technical...it simply may mean that it's a topic where everyone can contribute.- Top

Re: Denied Access Again?
Chuck:
Thanks at least for the attempted explanation.
Perhaps my "fears" stem from, at least in part, that the last time that my input was "blocked", no one even bothered to tell me until I received the CERTIFIED MAIL from Vito that I had been readmitted!!
I know, I know.....please do not ask questions.....especially in writing.
I won't quote him because being correct is not enough any more, but a wiser old friend was right when he said "Be glad you were a member back when the people were still interested in THE CAR and how it came to be.".
On the other hand, when you ask a question that involves whether or not a JG has omitted a certain model, is it too much to expect an answer?- Top

Re: Denied Access Again?
Loren, There is a much easier way to see if your posts are still on the board. At the very top of this page, on the bottom of the box that says WELCOME Loren (912)..... you will see a link that says, MY POSTS, just hit it and all your posts that have not been censured will appear.- Top

Re: Denied Access Again?
It is hard to believe any one would block you out just because you may have said something critical about a JG manual. If ever there was such a thing, a JG manual is a living breathing document. That's why it is updated every so often. I's far from perfect, but it's the best thing we have to go by. We are all learning more and more about our favorite car everyday. As has been said many times, because the Corvette was a limited production car, we can expect to see almost anything come from the factory.

Re: Denied Access Again?
If I remember correctly, your previous experience didn't result from criticism of a JG. I believe it was about heated discussion of JG deficiencies going too far examining the "reasons" for the deficiencies, and direct personal criticism of other members...you got "nailed" as the most responsible party.
It was understandable; many of us are passionate about this hobby and trying to get the cars "right". But...I expect that these moderators, like all moderators in well-run forums, will continue to strictly limit serious personal criticism of other members, regardless of whether said criticism is deserved or not.
I don't mean to sound hypocritical here...there were instances on the old TDB where I deserved to be disciplined as well; I suppose I escaped justice because my sin was not judged egregious enough. Anyway, I suspect that one of the objectives of this new forum is to strictly enforce discipline on everyone in this regard.
In any event, the important thing to remember is that you're reinstated...you're here now, and considered a valuable, long-experienced member by probably most of us. I saw your thread, but like most members here, I couldn't comment...I don't know jack about C1s. Frankly...your last two threads were way over my head; I couldn't say anything simply because I wasn't smart enough.- Top

Re: Denied Access Again?
In this case, Loren's thread had slipped over onto the second or third page where Mike found it, because no one had replied...Loren immediately assumed that space aliens impersonating NCRS officers and moderators were out to get him by stealing his thread.
I'm only kidding you, Loren...It's also happened to me; How do you think I'm so familiar with your response. My first reaction was: WTH??!!...Someone has DELETED MY POST!!!...How dare they!!!) HaHaHa...LOL- Top

Re: Denied Access Again?
If you could be bothered to page back a few entries Chuck, you might see the statement that I received a letter telling me I was READMITTED before I even KNEW I had been banished. It would APPEAR that you know FAR MORE than I about what heinous crime I committed; you refer to "direct personal criticism of other members" and "most responsible party" - I'll offer just one response, Chuck - it's hard to know what you've done "wrong" if nobody can be bothered to make contact; and IF it had something to do with the Revision/Non-revision of the 63-4 JG for a 15 year period, Yep, I'm guilty.......as were more than a few "others".
Again, you apparently know more about the "reason" than I do, so I'd appreciate it if you could pass on the details.
Perhaps its necessary to return to the fact that the JGs as you know them today WOULD NOT EXIST WITHOUT PEOPLE OFFERING INFO THAT WAS CONTRARY TO WHAT WAS "SET IN STONE".
After all these years, the people who live in the "real world" know that the JGs are not "DONE" and perhaps NEVER will be; but it would appear to member #912 that those in charge are increasingly reluctant to accept
even proposals that "the JG is less than perfect" and that's JUST PLAIN STUPID.
Looking forward to the post-judgment banishment guidelines........
Answer: No, it is NOT too much to expect; however, jumping to the conclusion that you're being punished for asking a JG question is unjustified paranoia.

...
Is it possible the action was reviewed and rescinded at the highest levels? Otherwise, why send you a special letter? I've never heard of that before; it seems like unusual treatment for a perceived troublemaker...most forum mods will just give you a good stern a** chewing online as a warning, or with repeat offenses, you one day find you can't sign on anymore.
Yeap...That 63-64 judging guide discussion is the one that I remember that got you and several eminent members in trouble. The good guys that got into trouble are back now, and that's good...we need you here.
Anyway, Loren, the tone of your words about me possibly knowing more than you about this situation further betrays your paranoia. I am typically not in the NCRS gossip loop, and have no close personal relationship with anyone "in the know". In this case, I ONLY KNOW what I read and remember from the old TDB. One didn't have to be a rocket scientist to read the words, make the analysis, and figure out why you were temporarily on the hot seat.
Since you were participating in the discussion, it's hard for me to believe that I can see this situation clearer than you from simply reading the discussion, but that seems to be the case...maybe you were too close "to see the forest for the trees"
Yes, I'm well aware that judging manuals are never DONE, and that improvment would never happen without people offering information contrary to what is set in stone. Over the years, I have found more than a few items I disagree with in my year class judging manual. What you seem to be missing is...offering contrary information is not a displinary offense; It is only when we become frustrated about our information being refused, and subsequently began to criticize those responsible that we get into trouble. Hell, even if you get it changed, it may change back in another edition or two...life is too short to worry about this stuff that much.
My main point is that you are an important member here, and I want you to enjoy this forum just as much as anyone. Conversely, I want to enjoy what you have to share without you constantly worrying about nonexistent reprisal.
My "post-judgement banishment guidelines" are: What's in the past is past. Getting in temporary trouble with those in charge is not a terminal offense or permanent dishonor; you're not the only one to ever experience forum discipline. Don't whack anybody, and you don't get whacked. Forget it already and just enjoy yourself...unless reminded, everyone has forgotten the incident except you.- Top
