    61 Generator

The generator on my 61 does not have a date tag. The only number I can find is stamped on the flange under the adjusting screw hole at the front. It is 1941168. Is this correct? Or is there somewhere else I need to look for the number?
    Thanks

    Re: 61 Generator

originally there was a Delco Remy tag riveted to the generator's main body. it contained the part # for the generator and the date it was manufactured.John Pirkle can supply you with one. he ads in the driveline. good luck, mike

Mike is correct, the PN for the generator assy was on a Delco tag riveted to the side of the generator case. The number you're reading is the casting number of the front frame used on 1102174 generators....

The pic is a Corvette plate--62 1102174 generator used it (and it better have it, otherwise it loses points in judging)--no tach drive, because it was distributor driven.

Thanks , Because a tack drive generator (corvette) front plate don't have those stiffening ribs

Please note the PN of the generator I posted with my pix, Roy... It's '2174 and NOT the '2043 assy that I believe you're thinking of.

As Mike said, this is a 1962 only generator that was used in BOTH Corvette and passenger car applications. Remember, 1962 was a cross-over year for Corvette as the basic 283 engine was dropped on favor of the introduction of the 327.

That said, the original post referred to the generator on the poster's 1961 Corvette and that should be a 283 engine with the base car having a '2043 generator for which this 1941168 cast aluminum end frame is factory incorrect!

But, while it's incorrect for the application, there are 1962 Corvette owners HUNGRY for the part! They were notorious for breaking/chipping at the outside edges of the frame that were considerably wider than the previous front frame used on the '2043 generators. So, he's in good shape to 'swap' his front end frame IF it's cosmetically intact....

                  Re: 61 Generator

I am restoring a January 1961 315-HP and have a couple questions in reference to the electrical system:

                  1. The generator is missing the tag and there are two generators listed in the 61-62 JG for the 315-HP, first and second design. How can I tell the difference between the first and second design, I would like to purchase a replacement tag?

                  2. The voltage regulator also has two designs, first and second. What are the differences?

                  Picture of the end plate:

                        Ray,
The ears on the front end frame look like the 62 268 gen.
