    I have seen several low milage, original cars in the 1970 to 1972 range where both types of screws were used on the same car. Example: my 1970 Coupe #8998 and Drew Papsen's 1972 Coupe. Many, many others

    When two types of screws were used did the heads set the same depth in the shift plate?

    I agree; the do APPEAR to be different in size. However, it must be the photo or some other type of "optical illusion". I checked them both and they both seem to be #8. At least, they both won't pass a #6 gauge hole and both will just pass a #8 gauge hole. I suppose it's possible that the shiny one is a #7, but I don't even know if they make such a size and, even if they do, I don't think that GM ever used a #7.
