I can't find the "locating gage" I used last time I adjusted the linkage on a previous car. Is there something else I can use instead?...preferably without having to actually make something.

Re: '66 4 speed shifter rod adjustment
Hello;
One the rear edge of the shifter gates/arm you should notice a notch in which a round rod or drill bit will fit. (looking forward and up from left of the driveshaft front yoke)
Line that notch up across the back of the arms and you will be close enough to feel the shift handle sideways back and forth while pulling up on the reverse lockout.
You can then taylor the final adjustment one thread at a time.
Hope this helps.

I hope you dance

Re: '66 4 speed shifter rod adjustment
Any piece of flat bar stock cut to the width of the slot in the shifter housing will work. Purpose is simply to align the shifter levers in the neutral gate until you can adjust the rod lengths to fit. Frees both hands to make adjustments.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: '66 4 speed shifter rod adjustment
The reason I'm going to adjust the rods is because the forward one(3rd&4th) barely extends past the swivel. Just enough to get the outer jam nut on, so I figured they must not have been put on correctly by the previous owner. Any thoughts?- Top

Not real unusual, center the shifter and readjust then see what it looks like.Bill Clupper #618- Top
