My old Dog Dish hub caps on my 61 have a few dings and very light pitting or abrasion from years of driving. Are these stainless or regular steel. Can they be polished or do they need to be replaited. Any good publications on how to remove minor dings in the metal. Jerry

Re: C1 Dog Dish restoration
Small Chevy/Vette hubcaps for 60 - 62 are chrome plated steel so when the chrome gets scratched, dented or dinged by rocks, there no real way to get the shine back to original, unlike stainless steel.
There are people that specialize in removing dents and dings and I'm amazed at some trim that has be straightened and polished that looks as good as new. Don't know how it's done but takes lots of time and patience. It's possible that some professionals can remove the dents in chrome plated hubcaps without ruining the chrome finish. Worth a try. If the chrome is damaged, they can be re-plated. Then, of course, you will have to repaint the depressions and flags with black paint. Or, you can just hold out to find NOS or excellent ones to buy. As you may have noticed, one member recently sold 3 excellent small hubcaps for $50 each. I was about 4 days too late in getting my Driveline.
Good luck, Larry- Top
