    C3 69 mysters pieces

These were in the door of my 69 conv. just laying there. The car has power windows and I am stumped. Anybody have a clue what they are and do they mount inside my doors. Yes Jack H. I looked in the 69 AIM
    A31 sheet A1 and I am stumped.

    Thanks for your help.

    Door lock water shield.

Look closer at the AIM - I'll bet it's in there.

Umm, in the internal door parts.

Sheet K7 in the door section for 1971. Not hard to find if you own an AIM.

            Patrick,

My shark also thanks you. Got him yesterday instead of working on my 69 shark. Caught 4 of these and you'll be happy to know I practice "catch and release".

Catch and eat isn't bad either. Beautiful shark!

Water shield?...I thought those were to keep theives from jiggering the door latch with long skinny tools.

To Pat, thanks for the pinch hit! I'm sure Jimmy will get more comfortable with Shark cars as he gains experience...

On the shields, the AIM simply calls them out as 'shields' without distinguishing between 'water' and 'theft'. So, we can use our imagination as to what the designer's original purpose was for these parts.

They ARE often discarded by prior owners/mechanics who've been into the door to replace locks and lock interconnect components. Without reading the service manual, many simply remove the fastners and hear the shield go 'thump' as it drops into the lower door cavity!

Most don't bother to fully open the door's access panels, fish out the shield(s) and raise them back into position with a pull string for re-installation...

Thanks Jack. Apparently that's what my painter did. They were just lying inside the doors and since I am new to "shark" infested waters I was stumped.

It's likely they served both purposes...they do have foam sealing strips at the top of the two sides. I found one of mine (driver side?) pretty chewed up...like someone had tried to break into the car at one time. And, in fact, the car was vandalized once during it's history.
