    54 Vacuum fluctuation

I am tuning my carbs on the 54 and connected a vacuum gauge to the intake manifold to read the idle vacuum. To my surprise, the gauge is reading a rapid fluctuation of between 12 and 19 in/HG. The engine seems to run fine, but I'm concerned about this. Any ideas, anyone?

Hi Joe Sounds like a valve trying to stick to me. A little Marvel Mystery oil in the carbs will probably cure. I always put a little in the gas tank on the cars I don't drive regularly. Good Luck

Top is a original design having the brass tag and you can remove the end nut to change spring tension.
Bottom replacement no brass tag or end nut.

Are you "T" into the vacuum line. Hooking directly will cause the swings in the readings.

No, I hooked directly into the fitting for the trans vac modulator. Did not "T" into it. Why would this make a difference?
