I have come across a 283, casting number 3731548, casting date E87 with the following stamp pad- KA57407CAL. The stamping by the way is original and it faces towards the rear.
Owner claims that it was pulled out of a '57 corvette to be replaced with a 327 sometime in 1967/1968 and looked as though it had never been out of the car. He recalls it being a single four barrel. I am trying to get the VIN of the car to match with casting date to try and make some sense out of it. John Hinckley has confirmed it to be a McKinnon engine from Ontario, Canada because of the K designation. (thanks John)
Do any of you guys recall GM ever putting a McKinnon engine block in '57 corvette(s) to be tested? Maybe pulling a car off the line and replacing Flint engine with McKinnon for continued testing and research? Owner recalls the car being Inca Silver with red, but I believe a May production would have been too late for this limited color, although not sure of details. Any thoughts or "it might be"s would be appreciated. Thanks.
