C1 BIG BRAKE SCREEN COVERS: Same for RPO 684's and 687's?

Are there any differences between the early RPO 684 and later 687 brake screen covers? Do they fit one as good as the other?

I believe also, they are the same. The wire mesh screen is the only difference. Thicker mesh on the late 59-62 RPO 687 styles.

Jeff Reade in Culver City, CA 310-397-3800 makes an excellent 'reproduction' set of covers.

Jeff used my original set of covers to make his reproductions. The reproductions are so good that I told him to make sure not to refinish mine--I wanted to be able to keep the repros and the originals straight. If I put them next to each other and know which is which, I can tell the difference. Mounted, under the car, there is no way to tell a difference. Gessner is correct, as is Lou---the backing plate differences between 684 and 687 is the screen mesh--the rest is identical.

There is also a TSB dtd June 8, 1962 that severe braking requirements may require installation of the 1/4" mesh screen instead of the 1/8" mesh on RPO 687 cars. Also provides a template for the screen.

I need a set of the covers (8 total) called Jeff about a year ago and he took my name and added it to his list, because he was out of them. I checked back a couple of months ago, he was still out. Has there been another run made?
