    Engine stalls unexpected

    After the hibernation I revitalized my C2 a couple of weeks ago and headed for some nice rides into the black forest. Unfortunately the pleasure was clouded by a strange experience and I cannot find the reason.
    In certain cases, only when launching the car after a stop (at a light, crossing, etc.), suddenly the engine stalls. It is a clear electrical failure, because when switching the wires from the orig. coil resistor to my back-up-resistor, the engine is back alive. Could last a couple of feed or hundred of miles.
    Does anybody has a valid idea ? Condensator is already checked !

    Thanks, Bernd

    If the car quits in a area where you have a moment to use a test light, check the feed wire to the resistor for power. If no power the problem may be corrosion at the firewall connection where the engine harness plugs to the fuse block.

      Check the bulkhead connector, probably has Air Car Itis.

        Had the same problem off & on - turned out it was the firewall connection, put a small screw hidden under the connection and have not had the problem for a few years now.

          Thanks a lot for the hints. I'll try to figure out whether the harness might cause the problem. Will keep you in the loop !

            Hello;
            Try the primary ignition wire from the coil negative terminal to the points. This wire has to flex each time the vacuum advance is activated. The wires will break inside the insulation and be undetectable unless you strain the wire casing insulation.
            A short term fix is to disconnect the advance vacuum hose and plug same.
            Doing so will allow the wire to remain static and touch inside the insulation.
            Hope this helps.

              Same applies to the breaker plate ground wire.

                Hi guys,

                sorry, took some time til I was able to crawl through the wires ...

                Finally it turned out that the wire from the resistor to the carb was broken (inside) and the firewall connection was corroded. Replaced also some cable shoes, now the car is back alive !

                Thanks a lot for your hints !
