Re: Any Mac users out there? Need Photoshop help reading my tank sticker
I have a couple of questions.
Why would General Motors have a zone and dealer code for a vehicle?
I didn't know vehicles from the OEM made it into circulation.
Any idea why there was both hand written and typed information,
from (2) different locations on the same tank sticker?
Thanks again.

Sometime ago I asked the previously asked questions
in a follow-up to my original post and did not get a response.
Now that I have my tank sticker information identified and the car running,
I want to register it, get a new window sticker and show it but would like to
get these questions answered from the "experts" before I do so.
Thank you.

..... If anyone is up for a challange, by all
means, drop me an e-mail at rudyweise@comcast.net and I will send it to you
in any format and maybe come up with a good result.
Joe (Rudy) Weise. Tell us on this DB what the file size is so that we can decide whether or not to email you and give it a try. We would email you back our "efforts", and you would decide who's are worth posting (say on Photobucket).

Wayne,
Thank you for your reply.
I already have the information decoded from the tank sticker.
Now I just need to know if and why General Motors would have
had two different zone and dealer codes for a vehicle and if vehicles
from the OEM made it into circulation.
Thanks.

The car may have been ordered originally for company service, and was re-allocated very late to Penske Chevrolet; the tank sticker was computer-printed long before the car was actually built, and the changed zone/dealer code was added manually.
Nearly all company-service vehicles "made it into circulation" - after accumulating 3,000 miles, they were either sold to employees at a discount or sent to wholesale auctions.- Top

When I bought my '67, I knew the tank sticker was there so I dropped the tank and it was quite readable. I took many photos of it still on the tank next to the license plate of the car, then I cleaned it up, encased it in plexiglas and it is now stored in my lock box in the bank vault. Now I always know where it is. PT- Top

Mr.Hinckley,
Thank you for your input.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know when Roger Penske Chevrolet
first opened the Southfield, Michigan dealership on Telegraph Road?

Re: Any Mac users out there? Need Photoshop help reading my tank sticker
According to Google, 1970 but I thought it was earlier than 1970. It is now Joe Panian Chevrolet, soon to be deceased per Obama Motors. He bought my brother-in-laws house in Bloomfield Hills about that time and I could check with him on the purchase date.- Top

Re: Any Mac users out there? Need Photoshop help reading my tank sticker
Hello,
I called Penske Corporate late last Friday.
Truthfully, they were very kind and genuinely interested in my inquiry.
The person I spoke with told me they would check into it and said someone
would get back in touch with me.
This morning I received a call from the Sr. VP of the Penske Corp who,
was a Partner with Roger Penske when they opened the dealership back in
June of 1971.
He was a very nice man and his response was basically what
Mr. Hinckley stated and added after a certain amount of miles or
months in service, the cars were returned to the tech center and
the dealerships would bid on the cars for resale at a fairly reduced price.
I didn't get the spelling of the gentleman's last name.
If someone responds to this with the spelling, I would be able to confirm it.
Regards,

It sure was nice of him to take time out of his day to speak with me.
