    C3 oil guage rebuild

    1) Who should I send it to with my goal of keeping it original as possible?
    2) Should I have the other gauges reworked while all apart?
    3) Do the Speedo at the same time?
    4) Tach seems fine but again should I rework while all apart

Any advice/caution on how things come apart or just follow the AIM? I know the center gauge cluster if fragile!!!

Thanks for your input in advance

    Dan,
I would absolutely contact and send to Harrison Speedometer. I was on vacation down in Florida and visited his shop, where I spent a good afternoon. He took me through ALL the steps and I have to say he is above and beyond with Quality, Originality, Calibration, etc....and he is expeditious when required.

Tell Bill at Harrison's (561-676-3099 ), I sent you.....it may cost you a few bucks more for that, but he'll treat your gauges right.

I am going to be having ALL my gauges and cluster done by him by years end. With that said, I would have all done, because if you have a couple done you'll be amazed at how much sun/air fade has taken place.....The others just quite right, but you can have them done individually as well.

      Dan,
I have a '71 and my gauge went to zero and so did my blood pressure. I was the gauge and I took it out and put some solvent into the pressure tube and let it sit overnight, cleaned it out, carefull with the green face and it works fine. (PS I hooked it up and tried it Before putting everything back! ) Taking out the center just be careful with the thin part of the console 3/4 of the way up. Take your time, no cursing about the nuts on the base or cuts to your hands.

      Good luck, Ken

        Re: C3 oil guage rebuild

Hello, just repaired the oil gauge in my 70. I had a broken oil line which I replaced last week. The oil gauge instrument was frozen after some years without movement. I dissasembled it, cleaned with great care the bourdon tube, links and the like, and finally the instrument resurrected.

Be cautious with the small pieces in the back of the gauge, use a bit of solvent or Wd 40 and clean with care. Oil a bit the moving parts. Reconnect the oil line and hardware and avoid oil leakage.

If the instrument is not damaged will work again, for sure. In my car at engine start up it reads less than 50 and after warm up it oscilates around 30/35 or a bit more at high rpms.

        Best regards

          Re: C3 oil guage rebuild

Dan you requested any advice and stated your tach is working fine. Although it is working fine now, to prevent the tack drive gear that runs off the the distributor shaft turning, recommend that you remove the tack connection at the distributor, remove the tack drive gear retainer and grease the gear and reinstall. You can buy new tack drive gears, but your specific distributor shaft has not been available for years.
Also you might try a new oil pressure line to the oil guage before removing the guage cluster.
