    Rebuilded 65 diff is moaning.....

Some weeks ago we rebuilded my posi diff completely (new clutch pack, etc etc). Everything was aimed right we added the correct lubricant. So all should be ok.

I drove a few short trips in the last weeks like max 25 miles and no sounds could be heared and absolutely no cluncking sounds like before when taking a corner or roundabound.

Last weekend I drove our roadtour of in total about 170 miles and at the end of the day - after driven the car quite some km - the diff started to make noises again when cornering. Now I hear a high moaning sound which is even heard when you drive behind the car in another vehicle (I heared it myself because I tried, when my dad drove the 65). It is not cluncking sound but something like huuuhuuuuhuuuu

    Did we do something wrong?

I have a 64 that made similear sounds on cornering. I found that the outer ends of the two drive-shafts going out to the wheels were slightly loose. (Wehad not locked the "french clips" I think you call them).

        Michael,
Check the simple things first. Look at your tires to make sure everything looks OK, if they are bias tires they may go huuuhuuuhuuu. If you do some figure 8"s in first gear this should distribute the posi fluid through the clutch pack and that may take care of your clunk noise. For the other noise, check the pinion yoke nut just to make sure the nut did not back off. Try to move the yoke back and forth if you can get your hands in there. If everything is tight that noise may be a bearing noise and you may have to back in.

What kind of gear lube did you use? Friction modifyer ("Posi additive") is not included in most gear oils.........you must add 1-2, 4 ounce tubes of it to the diff.
