    WCFB carb question

Does anyone know how I can determine what year and application WCFB carb I have ? All casting numbers match the 58-60 judging guide but I know there are lots of variations. I am trying to find some dual carbs for my 1960 245HP.

    Mark;

Beyond the JG, what are you looking for? A data book specific to WCFB's ?or someone to bounce specific questions off ? (an expert). Also, what has your current (single) carb that matches the JG have to do with dual carbs? Are these two different subjects?

I think if you clarify you may get some responses.

If the "triangular" carburetor ID tag is missing, there's really no positive way to ID the carbs you have (or, any other WCFB). The fact that the various component casting numbers are correct is a good sign, though.

If the casting numbers are all correct, that's probably also a very good indication that the carburetors are otherwise correctly configured.

I'd say if the carbs have all the correct components and the car runs good, why be concerned about whether the carbs are, in fact, the exact correct models? Just obtain some reproduction carb tags of the proper numbers, bolt them on, and all should be well.

        Re: WCFB carb question

My posting was not very clear. I'll try to clarify. My 1960 came with a mid 80's 350 engine. I am trying to gather the pieces to get it back to stock which will include a set of dual WCFB's for a 245HP engine. I am finding the carbs the hardest part to find and most expensive parts to buy. I bought 2 pretty complete WCFB cores today from a local carb shop owner that I have known for years but he does not know much about Corvette carbs. Carb #1 appears to be the front 2626S (245HP) or possibly a 2613S (270HP) of a dual 4 barrel set-up. Carb #2 appears to be a 1957 Corvettw single 4 barrel carb (2655S).

        Here are my questions:
        1. For Carb #1 if the main body is 0-049, the air horn is 6-1299 and the base is 1-1387B and there is no hole through the air horn for the choke, then could this carb be restored to be a correct front carb for a 245HP 1960 ? Can this carb also be set-up to be a 270HP carb ?

        2. Carb #2 has a main body of 0-1108, an air horn of 6-1299, and a base of 1-1386B and I believe it is from a 1957 230HP Powerglide single 4 barrel Corvette. If I find a 0-049 body could this carb be configured to be the rear carburetor for my car ? The base exterior looks identical to the 1-1387B and I have been told it can be reworked to function like the 1-1387B. Does that make sense ?

        3. Is it very likly I can find an 049 body because I understand these dual carbs are rarely separated ? Anyone know who might have one ?

        Thanks,

        Mark

          Re: WCFB carb question

I found the Gary Hodges article on Dual Four Barrel Carbs and it answered all my questions.

Carb #1 is the correct 2626S for my 1960 245HP. It appears complete.

Carb #2 could probably be used for the rear carb air horn but the base is too thick and the passages are very different. I will pass that on to someone who need a 1957 single 4 barrel.

I will get on the waiting lists with all the carb restorers for a 2627S for the rear and hopefully I'll find one.
