    63-82 Door Retention Spring

Can the door check candy cane spring be replaced without taking the door off?

It can be done with the door on but you need an instulation tool. I would try to find a kind person in your Michigan Chapter who has installed a few of thease springs. The first time it could take hours and someone who has been their it's a five minute job.

As far as the installation of the spring, it's just like Lyle describes. It is a BEAR to install until one learns the "trick".

One other thing: you need to be sure that the "star wheel" that interacts with the spring rotates freely. Otherwise, you may find that you'll need another spring sooner than you want to.
