I'd say that option would be extremely rare for cars ordered in Florida!

Certain options from the past that were not in abundance (fuel injection, knock-offs, L-88, etc.) were rare because of high cost and are hghly prized today. Other options were not in abundance because nobody really cared then, and often nobody really cares now. I would put the block heater in the latter category. (Although the block heater in my 71 Chevelle got me through the longest decade of my life--11 months in Minot, North Dakota)

In Florida we would use the extreme heat in the engine block to reverse power feed back to the line, don't ya think?

I had a 69 coupe with the engine block heater. It had a plug in. I agree with Mike. I had a guy try to sell me a 68 CONV. 3 speed radio delete & no other options. The great dealer low ball bait & switch Corvette. I told him he probably had one of the rarest Corvettes built but the problem is that no body wanted it.

Odds are that cars ordered with K05 were:

            1) delivered to Northern US and Canada
            2) driven during the winter months, not just sunny days

1+2= salty road conditions. Probably not many of those cars have survived in good condition and are attractive to a restorer, or for Bowtie purposes.

I might suggest that it's an UNdesireable option to have as it may raise suspicion about hidden corrosion to a future purchaser.

Well, I guess I won't be expecting 6 figures at Barrett Jackson some years down the road. The car was originally sold in Canada and I have the bill of sale, protecto plate and the GM import documentation which shows the somewhat rare 1 of 840 K05 option. I found the correct GM K05 block heater on ebay so I'll be adding that per the AIM instructions as I work on my restoration project.

My 69 5100 mile 5 Star Bow Tie Convertible was delivered originally to up state NY and the tank sheet shows a KO5 which is still there. Black Book shows 843 produced. Bill #20328

                  Bill,

Great, now we know there are at least 2 in existence. perhaps we start a K05 registry. Have a great weekend.
