    Bob,

I have examined and photographed a number of 56-62 mats, top and bottom. The mats that I am confident are original all have a diamond pattern on the bottom as shown.

          Roy,

I should clarify that I was speaking of US Royal mats. A Baldwin mat was used in 56-57 also that I have not been able to find an original of to examine. Unfortunately, I have not seen much in the way of 53-55 mats, which are also supposed to have been Baldwin mats. I saw one on a first week of production 54 and I was afraid to bend it too much because it was so brittle, but the back looked to be a rough texture, but not very strongly defined.
