Eagle Rods for Big Block Chevy

    Hey everyone,

Does anyone have any experience with the aftermarket Eagle Rods for a big block? They are less than $300 and for that kind of money, I can avoid resizing/reconditioning stock rods, etc. which would put me into that territory anyway.

Just curious about people's experiences, pitfalls, etc.

    Thanks
    Joel

I don't have any experience with them. However, I believe that Eagle engine products are mostly "imported". So, if that fact, by itself, makes a big difference to you, you need have no further quandary.

Keep in mind, though, that "imported" stuff is not necessarily bad. The Chinese (mainland and Taiwan) have made HUGE strides in quality over the last 20 years. As I've mentioned before, they have some of the best steel-making plants in the world.

I think many of these rods are forged in the the PRC, but machining is done in the US.

I'm not that familiar with big block applications, but, in the past for small bearing small blocks that have weak OE rods, I recommended the Crower Sportsman, because the Eagle and Scat rods were rather heavy. However, last year Eagle came up with a new model small bearing SB rod that is closer in weight to the OE rods, and for the money (about half the cost of a set of Sportsmans) are likely a good value.

Time will tell if they have sufficient durability (The Crower Sportsman is proven!), but the design looks okay.

Both Scat and Eagle offer multiple models, which have different designs. In most cases for a high revving OE or mildly modified OE road engine, the least expensive model line is okay as long as they aren't significantly heavier than the OE rods.

        Thanks Joe and Duke,

The specific Eagle's I am looking at are the I beams which I think weight 830 grams +/- 2, which is pretty close to a stock rod.
