Are the following parts supposed to be painted, and if so, what color.
    - Generator "U" bracket and Mounting Plate
    - Generator Adjusting Brace bolt
    - Generator Pivot bolts
    - Voltage Regulator mounting screws
    - Starter mounting bolts
    - Fuel Pump mounting bolts

    Many Thanks

    Richard,

    - Generator "U" bracket and Mounting Plate - Semi-gloss black dip-painted
    - Generator Adjusting Brace bolt - unpainted
    - Generator Pivot bolts - unpainted
    - Voltage Regulator mounting screws - unpainted
    - Starter mounting bolts - unpainted, but are usually black phosphate or something similar
    - Fuel Pump mounting bolts - Unpainted. I have also seen the mounting plate (not the bolts) dip-painted semi-gloss black on original cars, even though some say it is unpainted.

      Thanks Bob.

I also see that on the exhaust manifolds are to be engine orange (base engine 283/230). Is this the entire mainfold down to the connection at the heat riser? What about the heat riser?

        Richard,

The exhaust manifolds are on the engine when painted, but since they are not hooked to the exhaust, the heat riser is not installed. The factory painters were aiming at the engine and the exhaust got a lot of paint since it was in the way and they didn't care how much paint got on the exhaust. It will burn off most of the exhaust anyway except the cooler portions on the ends.

If I had it to do over, I would have sent my exhaust manifolds to one of those places that put some sort of plating on it, then install them on the engine, and then paint the assembly. As it is, when the paint burns off, the manifolds rust pretty quickly. Of course, this is what happened with original cars, but sometimes we cheat a little!
