Are all solid axle rear crossmemembers riveted to the frame rail from the factory..not bolted! And would the existance of bolts identify a replacement rear crossmember.

When did the rear spring attachment to crossmember move below the rear crossmember..if it did?

Yes all were riveted not bolted and never below the rear crossmember unless some one wonted to rack thier Corvette

I have been away feeding my Kangaroos and tiger sharks for the weekend and just logged on to the site. Those photos are awesome I can't believe its possible to completley screw up a rear end so easy. Wow that must be nearly 3 inches the difference. I will be checking all the solid axle vettes that are sitting to high for the correct spring assembly now that I know what I'm looking at. Thanks Guys for your amazing efforts you make this site the ultimate Corvette site. Stewy

Roy some people take offence to being told that there car is set up incorrectly. They take it to heart because they think its a personal attack.
Some people are willing to see the imperfections in their car and some take it personal, sometimes its easier to say nothing unless asked. I asked a person years ago what does he think caused the bubbles in his paintwork on his 59 caddy and was told to ''f..... off'' and ''where is your car so I can pick sh..t out of it''. Now I say nothing and just cringe.

an other thing that surprizes me is how many sellers selling a 54 have a later rear end installed and talk about how it's 100% original while never mentioning this. The brake cables would have to be modified also using a later rear end

            Roy,
The 54 at the start of this thread was bid up to $116,000 Bloomington and did not sell.
Another red 54 sold for $85,000 and looked pretty good, but who knows it's actual condition.
