    I'll Take Two!!

Maybe I'm missing something but it appears to me that the price asked for some NOS parts is a bit out of control. Your thoughts??

No bids tells me that either a buyer is waiting for the last moment to bid, or all other buyers think the price is out of hand as well. You can ask anything you want, but the buyers ultimately set the actual selling price. JMHO

If you can't get OEM, NOS is your next best bet. Many of us have experienced the frustration of repo junk sold as quality replacement parts.

$450 for an element is a tad over the top though, sorry judge I take the deduct.

Now, if someone could sell me original, nos, gasoline at the price is was when they built my car?

Maybe we should add another item to the list of life certainties...Death, Taxes... and outrageously expensive NOS parts (if they can be found).

It's the old law of supply of demand...with supply approaching zero, prices get more and more outrageous if there is unfulfilled demand. Sellers can ask as much as the market will bear...of course, when they realize they're hawking to an empty field (zero bids), they may also realize that in their "overexuberance" (dohp!), they have inadvertantly exceeded what the "market will bear".

The interesting thing is that the silkscreen wording ie not correct. It should say BEST WAY TO PROTECT......................... Looks like the mesh is OK.

I see what the seller says, but is this air filter (eBay 350072160589) the correct original filter for a 67' 327/300HP car? I've seen mostly hex wire mesh, (never square wire mesh like this one) other Corvettes, which is the original GM installed at the factory?

From what I can see both the wording and the wire mesh design are incorrect for a 65 396 - LICS is now advertising one with the correct mesh. A friend of mine ordered one but has been at Bloomington and I have yet to see it.

My comments about the mesh pertained to 69-70 vintage 212's. I'm not familiar with the mid year air filter details.

I believe the same can be said for B28 (#236) Vacuum Advance Control (can). Some one is hoarding them and they will probably be showing up by 1's and 2's on Ebay someday. I trashed the bushes here in Florida with every parts warehouse for every known equivalent, and every Corvette parts dealer w/o success. I have ordered several from different sources which had the correct stamped numbers on them, but none have passed the "Mityvac" test (16 deg. or "all-in" @ 8"). The Delco number is still good, but no GM warehouse in the country shows stock, and I've checked every Chevy dealer in a 20 mile radius. Most aftermarket mfg's. of an equivalent are cross referenced to a "Sorenson" number which I haven't found yet.

Conratulations to whoever has them. The market is yours.

                    Stu:

I did some checking and found that the following three sources show the Delco D1312C vacuum advance unit as available or in stock. This is the same as the B28 can. Give them a try.

                    www.gmpartsdirect.com input as GM #88924985

                    www.autopartsgiant.com input as ACDELCO D1312C

                    www.rockauto.com input as ACDELCO D1312C

No guarantees, but they indicate in-stock and available to ship. Cost each about $10 plus shipping. Don't get greedy.

                        Re: I'll Take Two!!

                        Larry and Stephen;

Thanks for the information. On the potential sources, I have to talk with a human I think in order to get them to test with a Mityvac and confirm it will meet the spec. I've found, as has been reported by others earlier on this subject, parts houses have consolidated part numbers and I believe the end result is a unit that meets the specs of the majority of the users (i.e. 250 and 300 hp SBC), and not the SHP engines. Aftermarket and Corvette parts houses, such as Paragon, even stamp the correct numbers on them (236) as though they think the only thing we are concerned about is that it will pass judges scrutiny and not how the engine runs. I want to use it on my 63 340hp to correct the known Chevy mistake. My current B20 meets Duke's 2" rule until the engine as at full warm up during hot ambient conditions. Then the engine vacuum drops at idle to w/i his 2" rule and it begins to stumble which only makes the problem worse as it the vacuum advance starts to hunt.

That $350. to $400. price may not be too far out of line!

The one in the auction is NOT correct for any '67; the mesh for a '67 has squares of soldered wire (not stamped or hex mesh), but oriented on a 45* diagonal, not vertical/horizontal.
