Restore Alum. valve covers/ Intake

On my 66 327/350hp it appears that someone may have taken the easy way out and painted the valve covers and intake with silver paint.

What is the best way to restore them back to proper condition.

Is there a place I can send them or can I do it myself.

The process is called 'reskinning' of the aluminum castings. Jerry MacNeish (Camaro Hi-Performance, Maryland) is one option. I think Jerry Bramlett (Alabama) recently started doing this type of work. You might also check with Ken Hansen at 'Orindales' (Tennesee).

Paint stripper in a spray can from the hardware store will get the paint off, and you can send them out to be "re-skinned" to restore the surface appearance; I send mine to Jerry MacNeish (www.z28camaro.com).

I have had good luck using a product "Alumiwash" (according to my notes of 1992). I am investigating now where I got it. I pitched all replaceables b4 our last move from Illinois to Florida and dumped it then.

It really cleaned them to a like new condition, i.e. all the dark gray and stains were gone. I'll post the results of my search when done. I'm getting ready for another cleanup.
