    RPO 579 Tach

Did all RPO 579 column mounted tachometers have the "windows" in the side of the case as described on page 187 of Nolands Tech Guide?
    Thanks,
    Bruce B.

Bruce..If you are referring to the column mounted tachs used in 57 on 57's..I would say yes they all had the side windows you refer to.

But remember there were other types of the 579 tach used in 56 and other versions used in other vehicle applications.

It would not surprise me to see restored or cloned tachs to be void of the windows.

Bruce, & Joe, I have a NOS AC tach still in the box p/n 1548680 with the p/n stamped on the back (with green ink) along with the date "JUN 21 1957". It was given to me by an old time racer back in 1965 when he heard that I was restoring a 57. It has the 4 slotted windows around the case, near the chrome bezel, just as shown in Noland's book. I never got to use it because my car wasn't an air box car. I hope this will help.

Beware that these tachs are being "cloned" using a lower rpm tach and rescreening the face along with recalibrating the tach.

Did you notice who the winning bidder was?
Or, maybe just a NASCAR fan.

                Mike:
As strange as it seems to me, the buyer, Joe R. in New Mexico just bought a set of repro seat belts from me yesterday.
I was watching the auction for the tach and the price literally doubled in the last minute.
                Oh well, thats Ebay...

                  Re: RPO 579 Tach

I have seen the 8000 RPM tachs with clear windows and with green windows. Are each correct?

Does anyone know when these tachs were first cloned?
