    Differential side yoke seals...difficulty factor?

Good day all. During the course of reassemblying the rear suspension and installing the differential noticed a drip from either side yoke. Fill height is correct and suspect there may be need to change out side yoke seals. What is the difficulty factor (please be gentle...haven't read service manual yet ) in installing new side seals. What's involved? Thanks in advance for the info.

The rearend has to come out. Snap rings on the end of the yokes hold them in (unless they have popped off, which they do)You can get to the snap rings through the windows in the carrier

      Mike,

      1. Remove differential from chassis.
      2. Remove rear cover from diff case
      3. Remove "keeper" key from each yoke.
      4. Extract each yoke from case.
5.Drive out each seal from case.
      6. Carefully drive in new seals.
      7. Reverse reassembly process paying special attention to correct procedure for fastening/torquing the 4 spring-to-case retainer bolts

At this time, it would be a good idea to examine the yokes for end play due to wear on their thrust surfaces. Also, examine yoke keeper clips and spider gear pin for wear and replace as necessary.
