1972 power steering control value & piston

Are there any date codes or part numbers on the power steering control value and/or piston? If so do you know what the p/n's are and where they are located?

I have seen a date code on control valves, and the code seemed to match the car on some of the Bowtie cars we have had on the lift at NCRS meets. Sorry I have no pictures, but I'll try to remember at future meets. I believe the code is on the lower rear of the valve -- small stamped numbers on a flat as-cast surface.

The Valve and Adapter Assembly drawing shows the date stamp on the boot seal clamp.

"Stamp date on 5691118 clamp, seal when valve is tested.
Code = 000-0 Day of year (1 thru 365) and Last digit of year 4 for 1974 etc)".

The Hydraulic Assist Cylinder Assembly drawing shows the date stamp on the side of the rectangular end where the hoses attach.

"Stamp date code on this surface when cylinder is tested. Code 000-0 Day of year (1 thru 365) and Last digit of the year (2 for 1962 etc)".

I guess that tells you how long that assist cylinder drawing was around!!!

The part number cast on the control value assembly of my car is either 3695453 or 5695453. I have not taken the unit off for closer inspection, but I would tend to lean to wards the 3695453 number. Does this number correlate with and info you may have?

Also the piston has 9 72 stamped on one of the sides of the rectangular end. The spacing I would guess is 9xx72. Any thoughts on this number?

If it's actually one of the 2 numbers you mention, I'd say it's almost certainly the 5695453. This would have been a Saginaw-assigned part number and that's what I'd expect to see on the valves and what I recall seeing on the valves (although I don't recall the specific numbers right now). There are 2 castings that are used as components of the valve assembly. The more-or-less tubular casting which contains the ball stud is the ADAPTER. As I recall, it has a Saginaw CASTING number on the bottom.

The other end (with the fittings for the power steering hydraulic lines) is the VALVE. I don't recall if there is a casting number on this end, or not. I think there is, though.
