HELP PLEASE Installing Spring Sleeve on C3 Alternator

I am attempting to re-install the split spring sleeve on the lower mount bracket for the alternator. The long bolt at the bottom goes throught the mount bracket and the alternator. The alternator is stablized by the split spring sleeve approximately 5/8" long and goes into the alternator sleeve and the engine side of the bracket sleeve.

I've researched three different shop manuals and none references this step or "trick" in the process There must be a "magic" tool (I can't imagine "ring compressor" type tool that small) or an "insider's" trick to it. Surely someone out there has already been through this!!!
    PLEASE HELP!!

I assume you're talking about the sleeve in the CAST IRON alternator bracket, first used for small block Corvettes for the 1972 model year. Actually, I don't know why you removed this sleeve. However, I believe this sleeve can be re-installed with an arbor or hydraulic press. Make sure you properly support the bracket before pressing, though, as it's very possible to break or distort it.

Thanks Dave for the help.... I have the spring sleeve in the bracket now... so am I correct that you are saying to use a bolt to pull the sleeve with the bracket into the alternator? To clarify... its getting the spring sleeve into the alternator sleeve that I'm having the difficulty with. thanks again

I don't think the sleeve inserts into the alternator frame lower hole, at all. I think it's there more as a reinforcement/spacer. I don't think the OD of the lower hole is sufficient for the sleeve to insert and that's probably why you're having so much trouble trying to do that. There is a flat washer on either side of the sleeve.
