Fan Clutch Spin once engine is turned off

    Hi all,

I recently installed what is supposed to be a refurbished Schwitzer Type fan clutch on my 64 and I think it spins way to much once the engine is shut off. Can someone verify how much a fan clutch should turn or is this normal? I have done no road driving yet to test. As for the clutch I am not sure who did the rebuild. Was only told it was done...you know bubby type I am sure.

    Thanks so much.

    Craig,

With the engine at idle and normal operating temperature, shut down the engine; the fan should stop within 3-5 full turns after the engine stops.

      Hi Craig,

If I remember correctly what Fred Oliva (fan clutch expert and restorer) once told me, after the car has been driven and is fully warmed up, if you stop the engine, open the hood, and give a hard spin to the fan blade by hand, it should stop spinning after 3-5 five revolutions.

Give him a call if you want to discuss it further - he's very knowledgeable and helpful. His contact info is below.

      Good luck!

      Louis
