    Body Dolly for '54

I am getting ready to do a frame off for a friend that has a '54 and need to build a body dolly. Any place to get good plans or know if a midyear dolly can work.

I plan to make it out of wood. Any help?

    Thanks in advance.

Greg, I got the plans from Nolan Adam's book on C1 restoration. The NCRS sells this book. It worked great for me.

My son and I built mine from 2x4 and used 4" wheels. Similar to Noland's, just not as "nice" I took about 2 hours and cost around $100. I just measured the distance between the rear body mount holes and the front ones, then built a box. The front was held up by a very simple box frame that was connected to the main box by a few lengths of 2x4. Simple but effective. Mine was single use, so it was crude, it is now cut into kindling for the chiminea on the patio... Wheels were $3.95 each from Harbor Freight.

Top of the line dolly...Call Tom Komendera at 248-669-6560 or try Nuair on the web... I make my own from Nolan's book for my 1961 body-off and used Tom' ever since...One thing to remember, Make sure the front end (Engine compartment) is well Supported, for the body may be on your dolly longer than you normally plan. Also think about the painting, if you plan to move it to a paint shop, have one that can be loaded and tied down safely....

Also, if you plan on painting the body on the dolly (I did) make sure you can hit all the top panels without too much reaching. Measure the body to the top edge, and include the wheels in the dolly measurement. Otherwise you'll be standing on milk crates to paint the top of the body.
