    C-1 Heater. Whats this?

My 61 has never been original or complete since I've owned it. I'm putting it back together to complete a 4year (so far!) restoration. The heater has a thermostat/sensor connected to a bare copper (solid) wire. What is it? How and where does it fit. The AIM is not clear and the parts catalogs don't shed much light.
    HELP!
    THANKS!!!

I think what you are referring to is the capillary tube that is attached to the water valve. I do not have a picture of it, but recently went through it on my '62. I had to replace the leaky water valve and I did reinstall this tube, but it is for looks now and not really needed.

      Richard,
David is correct. I rebuilt my heater unit and replaced the heater control valve last winter with the newer type heater control valve from CC. (part # 451016--for-'58-62-pg 92 in CC catalog) see also (paragon-Picture on pg.41 in their catalog. pn-4704)..( My unit had been out of the car and in a box for about 42-45 years). BTW, if you're rebuilding you're unit, CC has a better gasket set.
      Hope this helps.

Thanks John and David. After looking at the drawings in the parts catalogs, I have figured out that my car did not have the control valve when I got it. Is the sensor at the end of the capillary tube just a part of the control valve?

The capillary bulb and tube was a failed attempt at automatic temperature control; shown as item #11 in Figure 23 on page 1-12 of the ST-12.
